As techniques in botulinum toxin and dermal fillers have advanced, indications for the lower face and jawline have emerged and grown in popularity. Many patients present with aesthetic concerns relating to the lower face, from a lack of contour and definition to wanting to feminise or masculine features or improve the appearance of the jowls or double chin.

For practitioners who are already experienced in offering injectables, training in advanced indications, such as those for the lower face and jawline, can widen their scope of non-surgical aesthetic practice.

Treatment with injectable fillers is considered to be intrinsically associated with the understanding of facial anatomy and appropriate techniques. However, a more comprehensive understanding of facial structure is critical to improving facial shape.

Treating more complex areas of the face like this can be highly rewarding. However, these advanced techniques can carry far greater risks, so it is vital to undertake appropriate training.
