Success story: Dr Valentina Campos
Dr Valentina Campos is a qualified dentist from Venezuela who moved to the UK in 2022. She chose the Level 7 Diploma by Interface Aesthetics to become an injector. Since, Valentina has since been working in the private sector in London.
Valentina, why did you choose facial aesthetics?
I remember reading an article about a dentist doing great treatment plans. I found myself immediately interested in it, and now I can confirm; it is a path that I love and enjoy doing. At that time, I was living in another country, and I could not find an institution that could offer me what I was looking for.
I arrived in England eager to start working as a dentist. I had to first focus on my registration, and once I completed it, I was ready to start my path in facial aesthetics.
It was a dream that haunted me, and I was able to accomplish it here, in London. It grew more during the pandemic because the majority of dentistry treatments were banned. Facial aesthetics offers me the possibility of working in an environment where, while following safety measures, I can still work independently.
How was your path from dentistry to facial aesthetics?
I am still trying to combine both paths while gaining more experience; I want to feel very comfortable when I offer facial aesthetics because I want to deliver quality treatments. However, I feel that both are very much connected; it helps with a patient’s self-confidence, which makes me feel good and motivated to do more.
How do you balance your current career and your new career in facial aesthetics?
During new patient examinations, I try to not only assess dentistry. Both careers are very related; for example, for someone with bruxism, apart from offering a mouthguard, I can offer Masseter Botox.
What were the two most significant challenges, and how did you overcome them?
Finding the courage to say I can do this, firstly because of the language barrier, and secondly because I just moved to a new country, and investing in my knowledge, was a difficult decision; however, it was made at a perfect time.
What made you choose the Level 7 Diploma?
When I made the decision to start studying, I investigated a lot about the benefits that could bring me to do the Level 7 Diploma in injectables instead of a foundation course. I visited different websites, among those the VTCT website. I read about regulations and offering safety treatment to patients and the idea for this country to increase regulations. Also, I read articles about complications that weren’t managed appropriately and the litigation that could bring, and I automatically wanted to learn correctly.
I knew that I had to spend time on it and the commitment I was taking, but nowadays, I believe I have made a perfect decision for my future.
Can you tell a bit about your experience while a learner at the Level 7 so far?
So far, I think it has reached my expectations. I feel very confident about what I am doing. I want to continue learning after I finish; I am definitely coming back for advanced training to offer more specialised treatments to my patients.
The wide range of treatments that we perform during face-to-face practices and the very well and complete handbooks have offered me a lot of skills and knowledge. On top of that, the team is always supporting you somehow, so you feel very supported by everyone.
What did you like the most about training with Interface Aesthetics?
I was looking for a course that was more personal while teaching, focusing on each delegate. Also that we could gain sufficient theoretical knowledge to understand the anatomy, the different products and the related complications before treating patients. Also, I enjoy very much treating actual patients and not learning through plastic dolls. I believe that facial expressions and muscle reactions are different in every person; here, we have the opportunity to assess each one of the patients.
How important was training with Interface Aesthetics to your success?
Training with Interface Aesthetics guided me to this new path and helped me feel confident about what I wanted to do. I am grateful for the opportunity to have such great mentors and how you are constantly learning from them and feel that you have someone to ask for support in case of an emergency or a treatment doubt.
What is your favourite treatment to provide?
All of them, because not every patient needs the same, and I enjoy seeing their happy expressions after finishing a treatment. I remember one, in particular, that was a full-face treatment; it was a young woman that had a discrepancy in her right side of the face. After examination and full assessment, it was managed to accomplish extraordinary results, and she was so excited about it; those reactions are priceless.
